Key Election Dates for the State of California

County Elections Office Began Mailing Ballots
County elections offices have begun mailing ballots for the CA General Election on November 3, 2026. Any registered voter may visit their county elections office in person to request and receive a vote-by-mail ballot.
You may also pick up a ballot at an early voting site. View Early Voting and Vote-by-Mail Ballot Drop-Off Locations.

Secure Ballot Drop-off Locations are Open
Ballots can be returned by mail, at a secure drop-off location, or to your county elections office.
To help ensure your ballot is counted, return it early by mail, drop box, or at a vote center. If returning by mail, send it early or take it directly to the post office and request a postmark.

Last Day to Register to Vote for the CA General Election
After October 19, you must complete Same Day Voter Registration (Conditional Voter Registration) and request your ballot in person at your county election office or polling location.
Voters can check their status at My Voter Status to confirm their mailing address and voting status.

Early In-Person Voting Begins
Vote centers open for early in-person voting in all Voter’s Choice Act counties.

Conditional Voter Registration:
Same Day Voter Registration, known as Conditional Voter Registration in state law, is a safety net for Californians who miss the deadline to register to vote or update their voter registration information for an election.

Voting Centers open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.
Election Results will begin to become available after all polling locations close on Election Night. You can find election results after the close of the polls at ElectionResults.sos.ca.gov.
