The HOPE Leadership Institute® (HLI)
is the first and only statewide leadership program specifically designed for professional Latinas in California. The goal of the Institute is to train Latinas in vital leadership and advocacy skills, enabling them to create fundamental change within their local neighborhoods and across California.
About the HOPE Leadership Institute
2023 marks the 25th HOPE Leadership Institute (HLI) Cohort. To provide more access to our programs and engage more Latina Leaders in California, HOPE will launch two cohorts in 2023, our traditional in-person cohort and a hybrid model aimed at leaders in need of more flexibility.
The HOPE Leadership Institute® (HLI) spans nine months, January through September, and includes five 3 to 4 day training sessions. Training sessions are intense, full days, and include academic seminars, personal assessments, group work, group presentations, advocacy, field trips, networking receptions, and conference attendance. In between sessions, participants are assigned both individual and group research projects.
The HLI provides a learning exchange between participants and leading experts, academics, and practitioners in the fields of civic engagement, leadership, political campaigning, health, education, and economic empowerment.
The HLI has created a pipeline of Latina leadership in California, committed to improving political and economic parity for all communities. The HLI has an alumnae base of more than 600 Latinas, many of whom serve in public office, or on statewide boards and commissions. Alumnae represent all major regions of California and cross-cut professional sectors. HLI 2024 cohort applications will open in Fall 2023.
