Timothy A. Hodson is the Executive Director of the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento. He is also an associate professor with the Departments of Government and Public Policy and Administration.
A native Californian, Hodson received his B.A. at California State University, Fullerton and his M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of California, Santa Barbara. After teaching at Claremont McKenna College, he became a staff consultant for the California state Senate. From 1978 to 1993, Hodson worked for the Senate in the areas of election law, the initiative process, government regulation, and legislative and governmental ethics. In 1990-92, as the staff director of the Senate Elections and Reapportionment Committee, he supervised the development of the Senate's redistricting plan, which was widely noted for the openness of its process.
In 1993, Hodson was named as the Executive Director of the Center for California Studies. Under his direction, the Center expanded its Executive Fellows Program, created the Judicial Administration Fellows Program while insuring all four Capital Fellows Programs reflect California in all its diversity. He also initiated several new projects including LegiSchool, an innovative high school curriculum program incorporating television broadcasts of the state Legislature; the California Election Data Archive which is the first statewide repository of local election data and Eureka! a computerized simulation exercise designed to teach Californians about the state budget process
