HOPE's Education Goals

  • Increased graduation rates from colleges and universities among Latinas;
  • Increased Latina transfer rates from community colleges to four-year institutions.

SB 381 Wright Graduation Requirements Requires any school district that adopts standards that meet or exceed the requirements or prerequists of being admitted to a UC/CSU to offer an optional alternative set of coursework to attain entry level employment skills. AB 60    Coto K-12 School Funding Formula Calls for a study of a weighted school funding formula by student need, school level, and geographic location. Support/ Held under submission Assembly Appropriations
AB 78    Portantino Concurrent Enrollment Extends and Modifies the current process of concurrent enrollment including extending the percentage of students from a high school that may enroll in summer college courses. Support/ Held under submission Assembly Appropriations
AB 132 Mendoza School Safety This bill would provide that it is the policy of the state that immigration agents should not interfere with the education of pupils in school.

AB 148 Coto Transformational Change Calls for a study of the relationship between transformational change within California schools using a multiple pathways approach and the administrative credentialing process.

Support/ Passed Assembly to Senate Rules for Committee Assignment - held in Senate

SB 160    Cedillo  California Dream Act Requests the UC and requires the CSU and Community Colleges to enable students who are exempt from paying nonresident tuition per AB 540 to be eligible to receive institutional financial aid awards. Support/ Held under submission Senate Appropriations Committee

AB 324         Beall          Elder Economic Security Standard Index                         Requires the California Department of Aging to adopt and annually update the Economic Elder Index as a more accurate measure of poverty for the Elderly in California. Support/ Vetoed by the Governor

SB 691 Yee California Public Accountants This bill would eliminate the option of two years work experience to become a licened accountant in California leaving the only option of one year work experience and as additional year of course work.

AB 943 Mendoza Employment: Credit Reports This bill would prohibit an employer, with the exception of certain financial institutions, from obtaining a consumer credit report for employment purposes unless certain criteria are met. Support/
