HOPE's Education Goals

  • Increased graduation rates from colleges and universities among Latinas;
  • Increased Latina transfer rates from community colleges to four-year institutions.

AB 2648 Speaker Bass Multiple Pathways Defines a "Multiple Pathway" Program and requires the Superintendent of Public Instruction to develop a five year action plan.       In the Senate Appropriations Committee
SB 890 Scott Early College Commitment Program Establishes a program to ensure early notification and early commitment of college opportunities for pupils in middle school and high school and their families. In the Assembly Appropriations Committee
SB 1251 Steinberg School Accountability: API: Graduation Rates Adds partial credit for pupils who graduate high school in 5 or 6 years to the calculation of each school's Academic Performance Index (API) and full credit for pupils with disabilities.

SB 1301 Cedillo    California Dream Act Requests the UC and requires the CSU and Community Colleges to enable students who are exempt from paying nonresident tuition per AB 540 to be eligible to receive institutional financial aid awards.

SB 1425 Steinberg and Simitian Education Data and Information Act of 2008 Allow access of California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) by local education agencies. In the Assembly Appropriations Committee
SB 1532 Steinberg High School Graduation Establishes a statewide target graduation rate of 90%, and specify that a school or local educational agency shows adequate yearly progress if it achieves the target rate or shows every 2 years at least a 10% reduction in the difference. SB 1585 Padilla Community Colleges Establishes a voluntary 5 year pilot program to increase the rate of student transfer to 4 year institutions. In the Assembly Appropriations Committee
SB 1629 Steinberg State Preschool Programs Establishes the Early Learning Quality Improvement System to develop a framework for improving program quality and a graduated funding framework that identifies necessary resources. In the Assembly Appropriations Committee - hearing set for 7/9
